Chia Network — Governed by “Chialisp” a new chain programming language developed by Chia that is powerful, easy to audit, and secure. The Chia network will make cryptocurrency easier to use than cash or credit and allow a multitude of smart transactions:
•Atomic Swaps
•Authorized Payees
•Recoverable Wallets
•Multisig Wallets
•Rate-limited Wallets
•Coloured Coins
History of Chia
•February 9, 2021 inventor of BitTorrent, Bram Cohen released the Chia cryptocurrency business whitepaper.
•March 19, 2021 Chia Mainnet launched.
•May 3, 2021 Chia Transactions were enabled.
The Chia Network and its founder Bram Cohen have an ambitious plan to disrupt Bitcoin by providing a green way to “farm” cryptocurrency as opposed to Bitcoin’s energy-sucking proofs of work model. The Chia network has developed and implemented Proofs of Space and Time the first new Nakamoto consensus algorithm since Bitcoin in 2008.
The ‘Proofs of Space and Time’ (POST) Model
The Chia networks “proofs of space and time” model is essential to Chia’s value proposition. The concept is that users, referenced as “farmers” will “seed” their hard drives or solid-state drives (SSDs) with software that puts cryptographic numbers into specific “plots.”
Once the “plots” are created and connected to the Mainnet the user will then be awarded with blocks from the blockchain based on the percentage of total space a farmer has compared to the entire network. Then a VDF server, known as a “Timelord” verifies that block, allowing the chain to move forward and awarding XCH to the farmer.
Chia Network has stated that not only will this system provide better security than Etherum, but it will also reduce the daunting energy expenditure that Bitcoin and Etherum’s “proof of work” model poise.
Maximizing your plot potential

There are hundreds of different configurations and builds you can create to farm Chia, but this guide will outline one specific middle of the road build that will optimize your plotting and return on investment based off your budget.
Prior to putting together these build scenarios we analyzed the three components (CPU, RAM, Temp Disk size) that will determine how many plots we can derive while making sure we do not mitigate our plotting due to limitations on these three components.
Please reference the following formulas:
•CPU — CPU is limited by this formula: (Cores + Threads)/2
•RAM is limited by this formula: (Total System RAM in MB)/3400MB. Round this down.
•Temp Space is limited by this formula: (Total Temp Space)GB/256GB. Round this down.
Middle of the Pack Build: This build can run about 16–18 plots at one time.

How many plots this build can run in parallel:
- This builds CPU is a 3900X which has12 cores and 24 threads. Following the formula, (12+24)/2, which allows this CPU to handle 18 plots in parallel.
- This build has 64GB of RAM. Following the formula 64000/3600 equates to 17.77. Rounding down would allow 17 plots in parallel.
- This build has two 2TB M.2 NVMe drives. Following the formula, 4000/256 equates to 15.625. Rounding down would allow 15 plots in parallel.
Chia Farming and Investing Reassurance
Major investors backing Chia Network — Chia Network boasts big-name backing from the likes of Andreessen Horowitz, Naval Ravikant, and Cypherpunk Holdings, according to data from Crunchbase.
Chia Network going public — Unlike numerous other cryptocurrency offerings, Chia has an actual formalized company behind it which intends on going public. Gene Hoffman-CEO & President of Chia Network made the following statement “We hope to file and list our equity in the next 6 to 12 months” per Decrypt.
Embracing Regulation — Chia Network has stated that their preference is having their network regulated because management has seen “scams and farces” in the cryptocurrency space that has hurt investors.
Farming Pools
If you are new the space, you may not know that being an individual farmer is becoming increasingly more difficult. Previous to main net launch, a single farmer had a much higher chance to win Chia. Now having 20 TB of farms will take an estimated 30+ days to win.
Continuing, pools are poised to begin on 5/17 according to recent tweets from Bram Cohen . Pools allow for farmers to join their ‘hashing power’ aka Farms which will increase the pools win rate. The proceeds are then split to members in the pool. This is similar to the popular crypto mining software, Nicehash. With this update, us farmers should have the option to start creating a new plot type which can be used for pool. You will not be able to use your existing plots and add them into a pool (as of this upcoming release).
Why should I care about pools?
Pools provide a way to have more consistent income from farming. In addition, being a solo miner will be impossible unless you already have 500+ TB and continue to scale and outpace the network growth.
